What is H.265/ HEVC
Time:2015-12-25
High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), also known as H.265, it is a new video compression standard, it‘s the new successor to Advanced Video Coding (AVC), also known as H.264.
The H.265 promises twice the compression possible with Blu-ray’s best video compression methods. HEVC is critical for streaming high-quality video even in congested network environments, and will be a driving factor in the delivery of 4K content to new Ultra HD displays.
The idea of HEVC is to offer the same level of picture quality as H.264, but with better compression, how does it work? what are the advantages and differences of H.265? You will learn it from this article.
1. Flexible coding structure: H.265, the size of macro block is explored from 16*16 to 64*64 for better compression of high resolution video.
2. High coding efficiency: At the same code rate, H.265 image will show higher definition than H.264 in details.
HEVC expands the size of the area, larger and smaller "blocks" essentially, which offers additional efficiency. Those can be bigger, smaller, and differently shaped with HEVC than with previous compression methods. Larger blocksn has been found to be more efficient.
3. Save recording capacity: H.265 can reduces file size up to 50%~70% with the same quality, supports resolution up to 7680 × 4320 (8K), reduces video noise and increases recording days.
